good thoughts

well, i’m now 2 weeks into school and it feels like 13 weeks in. this month has seemed to be a downer for myself, but from some good chapel messages and personal devo’s i see the good in my pains, and joy in my sorrows. here are some lyrics that i wrote a while back. i found it today in a pile of papers. not “chart-topping” material, but it speaks a lot.

Come to the Rock/Follow the Light/It will Guide you through your storms/of a Life that passes by/O, you’re tired and Weak/Crying out on your knees,/Open the door, /come on inside.

So come to the rock/ i’ll be by your side/ look to the light/ in your darkest times/ i’ll be there for you/ through all of your years/ so stay and abide/ till we’re on the other side.

The Historian

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova

Wow what a crazy good book!!! i love it. a must read for anyone who loves a good story. with the life like flash backs and super story line, Kostova has knocked out a home run. here is the teaser from the back of the book:

MY DEAR AND UNFORTUNATE SUCCESSOR:

It is with regret that I imagine you, whoever you are, reading the account I must put down here.  The regret is partly for myself – because I will surely be at least in trouble, maybe dead, or perhaps worse, if this in your hands.  But my regret is also for you, my yet – unknown friend, because only by someone who needs such vial information will this letter some day be read.  If you are not my successor in some other sense, you will soon be my heir – and I feel sorry at bequeathing to another human being my own, perhaps unbelievable, experience of evil.  Why I myself inherited it I don't know, but I hope to discover that fact, eventually – perhaps in the course of writing to you or perhaps in the course of further events….

i must say, that i have had nightmares after reading certain passages. but i always come back to it, to fulfill my need for it. a must read

–thanks josh, i wouldn't have known it was so good

Breaking the Code

today at church(www.gracechurchsc.org) was the DaVinci service, he went through the books points and then he showed from scripture and history how Dan Browns put fallacies in his novel. one of the more interesting points was how Constantine, in the book a christian on the deathbed, was really a convert much before then. supposedly, in Constantine's dream, he saw the cross above the battlefield–that signified the blessing of God. because of this Constantine "converted" to christianity. Also, the Council of Nicea was not to pick what to believe, it was to formally write down what was already being taught and code practiced. The Nostic Gospels that Davinci reffers to were not writen in the same century as the new testiment—leading to them being false. here are some helpfull sites to look at: www.TheDaVinciDeception.com www.DanBrown.com www.DaVinciCode.com

DaVinci and Demons

ok, so i have been reading two books by dan brown: davinci code and angels and demons. over the course of a couple of posts i will go over some interesting spots and show you the faults in some others. all in all the books are great fictional novels, with capivating characters and spellbinding action. but as a historicaly based writing— i think it will fit in more with science fiction

a million little reasons…

ok, this semester i read through one very interesting book, James Frey’s “A million little pieces.” although the book is more a novel and not an autobiography as it was sold, it is still very well writen. with the more than occasional curse and the constant theme of drug rehabilitation, frey illustrates his life with almost “real life” visualiations. his characters become more than 2D, you begin to feel with them– and soon discover that you can’t put down the book.
